New to Warner Robins? Take heart, although Warner Robins is still considered a "small town", there are many things to do and places to go within a short distance. We've been here seven years and I've grown to love this little community. There are several things to do in the local area, here are just a few:
Warner Robins. You must go to the Museum of Aviation. It's free (although you can make a donation) and it's is one of the finer Aviation museums I've been to. In the summer, they offer several camps for children, definately worth checking out. You can get more information about the museum and what events they have planned at their site: http://www.museumofaviation.org
If your family likes walking, check out the Wellston Trail off Corder Road, it's a wonderful little trail to walk along and a great family activity.
For more information on Warner Robins, check out the Chamber of Commerce Website at: http://www.warner-robins.com/visitor_info/index.asp
Fort Valley. Lane Packing. During the summer, take a FREE tour inside of how peaches are packed for shipping. Enjoy the many delicacies offered in their store and definately have some Peach Cobbler with Peach Ice Cream on top! Mmmmmm... for information and hours of operation on Lane Packing go to: www.lanepacking.com
Farm Markets.
William Brown Farm Market is located just north of Montezuma on Hwy. 49. They are open for the summer and have a wonderful selection of fresh produce as well as plenty on yummy, juicy peaches! Their ice cream is wonderful, it's definately worth a stop! You can check them out on their website at http://www.williamlbrownfarms.com/index.html
Dickey Farms is located in Musella on Old Hwy 341. The are also open only in the summer (during the peach season) and offer fresh peaches, produce, specialty products and truly delicious peach ice cream (this is my husband's favorite!). Their address is 3440 Old Hwy. 341 North, Musella 478-836-4362
Perry. Stop in Perry for a walk down Carroll Street. Shop at the many fine clothing and gift stores there and then have lunch at one of the cafe's or restaurants. It's a great way to spend your morning or afternoon.
Don't forget Priesters...located just off Interstate 75, they have a wonderful gift shop filled with local items and many others, as well. They also offer ice cream and serve lunch. For information on Priesters check out their website at: www.priesters.com/about/dispStoreInfo.cfm
Perry is also home to the Georgia National Fair. The Fairgrounds hosts not only the fair itself in October but also hosts many events throughout the year such as Homeshows, Craft Fairs, RV shows, and many, many more. Check out what's happening down at the Fairgrounds on their site: http://www.gnfa.com/
Macon. A short skip up the road you can go into Macon. Check out the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds Park just on the north side of town, their website is:
Also in Macon, there is the Hayhouse, Cannonball House, Sports Hall of Fame, Music Hall of Fame and much more. Macon even has a trolly you can take for a ride! Check out what's happening in Macon at: http://www.cityofmacon.net/Visiting/visit.htm
Macon has many fine restaurants such as The Tic Toc Room, Downtown Grill, Luigi's and more. You must take a trip to Ingleside Village while your'e there. Antique shops, gift stores, and the famous Ingleside Village Pizza! Worth the stop, for sure.
Just north of Macon is Juliette, where the film Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed. You can stop in at the original Whistle Stop Cafe for some gool ol' southern cookin', including fried green tomatoes, of course! (They also have a new location in Macon). In Juliette there is a small Habersham Winery to visit and do some tasting and several little shops you can browse through. Check out the Whistle Stop online at: http://www.thewhistlestopcafe.com/
Savannah. If you're looking for a day trip or an over-nighter, even better! Within a three hour drive, we have Savannah and the Georgia coastal island communities. Savannah is a beautiful southern City located on the Savannah river. You can walk through gorgeous parks in the historic section and visit places such as the Juliette Lowe House. Take a trolly or a horse and buggy tour to really appreciate the rich history of this lovely southern city. For some great touristy shopping and eating, go down to the Riverfront. There are many stores from the tourist bargain shop to high-end artsy stores and plenty to eat! You must get a praline while you're in Savannah (I think it's a rule.) If you're spending the night, there are several beautiful old B&B's to choose from. To get more information on visiting Savannah, visit their website at: www.savcvb.com/visitors_center.asp
Atlanta. Atlanta is just a hop, skip and a jump up the road and well worth the trip. On the way, you can stop at the Tanger Outlets to get in a little (well, maybe a lot) shopping. On second thought, you might just want to make the shopping trip a destination in itself! For information on Tanger Outlets check them out at: (and remember if you’re a AAA member, go to the office for a FREE coupon book!) Check out Tanger Outlets at: www.tangeroutlet.com/locustgrove
Once you finally make it to Atlanta, there are so many things to do! In the Centennial Olympic park area are several worthwhile things to see and do!
A visit to the Georgia Aquarium in a must! It is awesome. Get the details here at: www.georgiaaquarium.org
Right next door (literally) to the Aquarium is the World of Coca Cola. This museum is filled with all sorts of interesting facts and coke memorabilia. At the end of the self-guided tour, you have the opportunity to taste Coke products from all over the world and you get you own bottle of Coca Cola! Check out World of Coca Cola at their site: www.WorldOfCoca-Cola.com
CNN Center is located within walking distance to both the Aquarium and World of Coca Cola. The offer tours throughout the day. Check them out at: http://www.cnn.com/tour/atlanta/
Of course, if you're in Atlanta, you should spend some time at Stone Mountain. It's the worlds largest exposed granite monolith with a relief carving of Confederate soldiers. There is a skyride you can take to the top. Stone Mountain Park is a wonderful family day-trip, with many things for children to do. Check out their website here at: www.stonemountainpark.com
If you're feeling more adventurous, check out HELEN, GA, a little town nestled in the northern mountains of Georgia that replicates a Bavarian Village. It is somewhat commercialized, but still fun to walk around in, pick up some specialty german foods and if you're in the mood...tube down the river that runs through the center of town. Just south of the town is the Habersham Winery, which is open for tastings (if you like it sweet, get the Muscadine wine!) and Nora Granery, an operational mill set up as a General Store where you can buy just about anything from Cast Iron to Pancake Mix. There's only one road in and out of Helen and it can be slow going...once you get close to town, take the right on Eidelweiss Strasse to parking and to get off the main road!
Not far from Helen, is DAHLONEGA, GA....an old Gold mining town where you can still pan for gold...There are also four winerys located around Dahlonega that offer tastings, it's not as commercialized as Helen and has several little shops, general store, small cafes and restaurants to choose from...our favorite is the Cajun Kitchen! Take the GA Rt. 400 up to Dahlonega and be sure to check out the Outlets on the way home....it's a large outlet mall, with just about everything you could need (and want!).
Kids Corner:
Check these out!

This is a rehabilitation home for animals of all varieties. There's plenty to do for the whole family at Dauset Trails is Jackson, GA. Just check out their website and see! ** Travel hint: If you're traveling (flying) out of Atlanta Hartsfield Airport, check out the Groome.
